Misaki’s bookshelf

Mummy and I recently read a totally pawesome book that we thought you would like – if you haven’t read it already. It’s called It’s All About Treo by Dave Heyhoe.

Auntie Els lent it to us and we couldn’t put it down. It’s the true story about a service dog called Treo and his handler Dave who are sent out to Afghanistan on a mission to search out IEDs – improvised explosive devices. In the blistering heat and in constant danger from being shot at and being blown up, Treo proves himself over and over again as an invaluable search dog. So much so that he himself became a Taliban target!

What we loved about this book is the humbleness of Dave. Although he is an experienced soldier and dog handler, he is constantly in awe of Treo’s abilities as a search dog. But it’s not all work, Treo has his moments of naughtiness. There’s a particular scene with chickens that made us roll up! It’s also sad in places and mummy found herself trying to sniff back the tears on a few occasions. Overall it is a wonderful, inspiring book that really shows you how amazing dogs are. And most of all it’s a true story.

If you haven’t read it already, then you really should.

What are you reading at the moment?

  5. Sounds like a great book about a most brave dog. They are the unsung heroes – and have helped in combat through many conflicts. Truly amazing stories to be told and this sounds like a GOOD one. Thanks for sharing! The only thing I’m reading at the moment is my package of treats making sure Mom got the right ones….HAHAHA

    Hugs, sammy

  6. Sounds like a good read my learned friend. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  7. That sounds like a wonderful story! Treo has skills! Mom is reading a trashy book called The Husband’s Secret. No redeeming social value, but juicy and fun. Did your Mom ever read the book, Suspect? It also has a doggie with skills….

    Love and licks,

  8. That looks like a great book. I am reading “Rising Sun” by Michael Crichton at the moment.

We have been so busy with other things that we haven’t had the time to sit down with a good read lately. This sounds like a great story and it might just be time to fire up the ole kindle.
    Happy Cinco de Mayo!

  12. That sounds like a fabulous book, Misaki! I love books about animals but only when they have happy endings! I am currently reading “The Back of Beyond: The Search for the Soul of Ireland” – it’s wonderful. It’s about a writer who agrees to be a tour guide in Ireland, and how his life is transformed in the process as he confronts the Old Ireland versus the New.

  13. Oh, it sounds like a pawesome book! I may have to go in search of it, Misaki. Thanks!

I’m reading the list of ingredients on a treat package to see if they’re low-fat. That way I’ll know whether or not to feel guilty after I polish off the treats.

  18. Rebekah says:

I will have to check that book out.

  19. Misaki, you are a gem to highlight this book about a dog hero and Bless all the canines that serve us bipeds and make the world a safer place. I’m moved by your post to read this book. Another great dog/biped story that I wanted to share back with you is, “Until Tuesday” a wonderful book about a wounded warrior and a Golden Retriever, and how they saved each other. Hugs & wags to you and your gang. ❤

That sounds like a really good book. I don’t often read dog books, but I usually enjoy them when I do. Right now I’m reading The Iron Lance, by Stephen Lawhead, and The Last Detective, by Robert Crais.
