Whether it’s about training, health, grooming, recipes, toys or treats, I feel like I’m always learning something new. One thing that really made me sit up and listen was last month’s dental health awareness campaign, which many of my bloggy friends took part in.
Cleaning my teeth is something that mummy and daddy have thought about alot, but hadn’t quite got around to doing. Up until now they’d been quite proud of my teeth, although lately they’d noticed my pearly whites weren’t quite so, well, white. At long last they decided to invest in a doggy toothbrush. Having not done this before they weren’t sure what type to get, so they just bought a bumper pack that contained a bit of everything, Who knew Arm and Hammer made doggy toothpaste?! And it was beef flavour too – yum!
Daddy drew the short straw and got the job of dental hygienist. He started off with just some paste on his finger and then moved to using the finger brush. Now the thing is the paste tasted so good I spent the most of the time trying to lick off, which made the process quite interesting to say the least.
I wasn’t too impressed by the actual brush, but as a first attempt this went quite well I suppose, especially as it was followed by a dentastix🙂 Now the hard part is to try to hide remind them everytime my teeth need to be cleaned.

Misaki my friend, SHE tries to brush my teeth but I not too keen on having that brush in my mouth…I try to bite it! Even though the toothpaste is beefy flavored, it’s that darn toothbrush. Any tips you can share on putting up with the brush?
I liked the finger brush, maybe you could try one of those?

Hi Misaki! Our doggy toothpaste flavor is chicken! Our Mommy always lets us sample a little bit of the toothpaste before she brushes our teeth. She tries to do this once a week, and all I keep hearing her tell us is “sit still”, but all we want to do is get the heck out of the bathroom!! Keeping those pearly whites clean is important! ❤

You’re doing great with the finger brush, M. I get my teeth brushed every night before bed. Mom brushes my teeth with a 3-sided doggie toothbrush. It brushes the whole tooth at once! I have had poultry flavored toothpaste and poultry with mint (for my sauerkraut breath). I like them both, but Mom will be on the lookout for beef flavor next time. Yum!

Well good for you Misaki tolerating the teeth cleaning thing! I have a human baby’s “Barney” toothbrush my Mom bought for me when I was a wee lad. I got used to her shoving it in my mouth and my vet says it’s why I have NO bad teeth or gums at my ripe old age of 14! We don’t however use toothpaste….just water and the brush….it works!

We love that your peeps are brushing your teeth now, Misaki! Our peeps found out that lots of pet manufacturers make a liquid that goes into our water dishes. We have those water cooler dishes where the water cooler is about two gallons. Anyway, every time our mummy adds new water, she adds a capful of this dental liquid. We love the way the water tastes, and the vet even asked if we were getting our teeth brushed every day! We aren’t because we’re adept at hiding. But thanks to the liquid, we have beautiful pearly whites all the time. And no more bad breath! Lots of love from Simone the collie and Eddie & Lucy the JRs.

It looks like you took to it pretty well my friend. Mom insists on getting that toothbrush out and making me use it at least once a month. It usually happens after bath time. I’m not a HUGE fan but I will let mommy do it. Daddy, that’s another story – snorts. And my favorite flavor, cinnamon. I like it. I make grunting sounds when she does it. XOXO – Bacon

we have to be better about cleaning piri’s teeth! we use a finger brush but we just bought petosan and gave it a try last night. piri didn’t like the toothbrush too much but we hope he’ll get used to it! clean teeth = happy healthy dog! 🙂

I just bought toothpaste for Dakota a few days ago and didn’t know that Arm & Hammer has toothpaste for dogs! Thanks for the info!!! Dakota likes poultry flavor but would probably like beef too!

Me and Stanley get our teeths brushed EVERY night! And we love our chicken flavored toothpaste! We don’t even give our pawrents any fuss and if they ask if we want our teeths brushed we come running!

They torture me with an electric toothbrush. First we used a toothpaste with liver sausage. But when a dad bustles around with a toothbrush while I try to eat the toothpaste, the whole event ends in chaos. Now we use a toothpaste by virbac, what I totally dislike and it ends in disaster too. Butt we try to do our best :o)
I think the liver sausage paste sounds good!

No toofie brushing here. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to keep my toofies clean. My Vet always compliments me too

WE have some of that exact same stuffs… We like the flavor… and let mom brush and brush. We have been having our teefs brushed for as long as we can remember… so we are USED to it.

We’re bad dog parents we don’t brush Boomer and Dottie’s teeth… but if we did we would go for the poultry toothpaste, yum!

My teeth are brushed every 2 nights. It’s funny, I had a minty toothpaste and then I suppose we used it all up. My sapiens changed it up and picked chicken flavor. Which completely threw me off the first night! I was definitely weirded out by it.

Oh Misaki, welcome to the world of tooth brushing (Ick!). I have several tooth brushes, one of which is electric – I don’t like it much at all. I do like the taste of the beef flavor tooth paste but Ma says it is not for “eating”. Whatever.

Such a good girl Misaki! I didn’t know that Arm&Hammer made doggy toothpaste, it may well be worth a try. Though we have tried LOTS of stuff. The last thing I got was some gel that you pop into their mouths, called Tropiclean. But they HATE it, not one of them liked the smell or taste! I reckon the ultimate invention would be Dentastix flavoured toothpaste, because whatever they make those out of sends most dogs wild!

The arm and hammer range was pretty big, they had some spray as well that looked interesting, might be worth checking it out
I used to do that years ago to a sheltie I had lol this brings back memories of him licking and me trying to get to his teeth lol

My sisters and I brush every night before bed. We have our own brushes and toothpaste that is beef or chicken. We love it and even little Bailie follows Mom around until it is her turn to brush.

I get my teeth brushed quite frequently. I even let kids at the hospital and at school brush them sometimes. I have a battery brush that vibrates while it’s brushing. I LOVE it! Especially when it carries minty toothpaste. Yummm!

Me onlee had 14 teefiez when Mum resckued me n what waz left were tan not white….me had turrible Perrydontell Disease n me had to hab da reemainin teefiez out on 2009 n it waz *no FREEKIN fun* n it tooked me almost 3 weekz to heel up propurr n leern to eat wif no teefiez n Mum went to peecez….

You are a very good dog Misaki. We are impressed that you let your dad mess around with your teeth. We know you don’t like it but you will be better off if you let your pawrents clean your teeth.
