pumpkin drama

So we thought we’d give it a go.
It started off fairly well, I gave the mixture the Misaki lick test to make sure it was up to scratch.
Once it was covered and fully dried, we decided on a face
And then it was time to paint. Mummy had trouble finding the right colour, so ended up with an orange glitter paint. Two problems: it was thin and obviously glittery lol
While mummy was at work, daddy decided to step in. Now I should point out that daddy is the type of person that never finishes any DIY projects (and never starts them if he can help it). So she was pretty gobsmacked (and slightly annoyed) that he decided to paint our pumpkin white.
He thought it might make the paint show up more. But it didn’t. In fact the glitter paint wouldn’t stick to daddy’s base coat at all! The weight of the paint also made the face droop a bit. Mummy was even more annoyed. Things were tense in chez Misaki for a while there.
The next day Mummy went out in her lunch hour to buy some different orange paint which was a tricky mission. She eventually found some spray paint in a small hardware shop and phoned daddy to let him know. Daddy decided that wasn’t going to work, so went to a local DIY shop to buy actual paint and when leaving the shop managed to back into another car! He, of course, blamed the pumpkin for this. Mummy reminded him that neither she or our pumpkin had asked for his help and had he not poked his nose in he wouldn’t have been in that carpark in the first place. I was getting worried, was I about to become the dog of a broken home?? Were the divorce papers going to say irreconcilable differences over a paper mache pumpkin??
But with a few soothing licks from moi, I managed to resolve the pumpkin crisis. Daddy returned his paint, and mummy got busy with the spray paint.
I just hope we get a chance to put it out for halloween. We’ve heard on the news that we’re expecting bad storms next week, which means Mr pumpkinhead might get swept away like Dorothy’s house!
Have you made or carved a pumpkin this year?
I am not taking sides, but I quite like the white pumpkin – spooky! Although I must say that the finished produced it brilliant, it looks like it is sort of ghostly and melted which I think is really cool!
Oh thanks so much Dalton!
I’m carving a pumpkin for the kids of my permanent roommate’s school, I’m planning on carving something obscene lol
LOL I’ll hope you post it on your blog!
Wow – what an effort but it looks great. Good helping Misaki!
Thanks so much Ruby!
Misaki I think that pumpkin has a LOT of personality AND after all it’s gone through, I think it looks quite fabulous. When it was white it looked like a GHOST pumpkin, and now it’s shiny orange and ready to go for Halloween! We won’t carve our cat pumpkin until the day of Halloween so it’s nice and fresh and ready for the candle to go in before the kiddies show up for Trick or Treat!!

Oh thanks so much Sammy, I’m glad you like it:-) Looking forward to seeing yours
Oh Misaki…your mummy and daddy are so talented…that is one scary pumpkin! We especially like how you helped with the lick-test! bark bark bark! Did it taste scary/
It definitely had a spooky edge to it Dante 🙂
My human sight about silly things too! Humans! I think your pumpkin looks pawesome Misaki! =^.^
Oh thanks so much Bailey!
We say pumpkins have to be orange, and if you have it out and it gets swept away then you won’t have to worry about what to do with it after Halloween!
I guess that’s true Ems!
What a cute little pumpkin. The hoomans are buying one for us to carve up tonight! Whee cannot wait, whee love eating the pumpkin!

xxxx
I hope you’ll post a pic of it on your bloggy!
I think it came out pretty darned good!
Thanks so much Dakota!
Oh Misaki never let the hoomins work on DIY together…it’s never a good thing…I like your punkin…it’s kinda cute and a lot more than my momz has done for me
I think you’re right Gizmo!
I like your pumpkin!!! No worries Misaki, DIY-projects are always like a battle :o) I used a varnish spray for the finish, but I’m afraid my Howl-o-Wheemeraner is an indoor-guy too. We have a DIY-war too, because dad threw all the newspapers, mom needs for further paper mache guys, in the trashcan. Scandalous!
Oh noes, I hope you manage to get some more newspapers so you can make your paper weim a paper gf:-)
THAT is a GORGEOUS Pumpkin… and it is Color Changing… just like the Leaves of fall. VERY Crafty.
Thanks so much guys!
We don’t really carve pumpkins here. It’s warm enough that they get all rotted and yucky really quick. But we have some whole pumpkins out by our door to be festive!
I guess you could always draw faces on them:-)
Too many cooks wreck the car.

Its a very true one!
That is one scary pumpkin! We are terrified!
Kiki and Nala
I’m glad you like it:-)
That is going to be the best pumpkin on the block this Halloween, it’s very spooky and cool! Make sure you get a photo of it for us when the candle is in!
Oh thanks so much, I’ll deffo try to get a nighttime shot:-)
What a great story, Misaki! My two-leggers can often get a little … testy! in the kitchen, which is where the three pumpkins Elizabeth made in her garden have ended up. I thought it was what Elizabeth calls “Too many cooks syndrome”, but you may be right about the pumpkins…. I think they will eat them (If I’m a good girl, they’ll give me the skins. I love squash skins! Very tasty once they are boiled for a wee bit…). I can’t imagine them putting faces on them. That would just carry food play too far!
I hope you get some of that pumpkin skin, sounds good to me!
ended up looking pretty good,xx Speedy
Thanks so much Speedy!
Good job Misaki you have officially completed your first handmade pumpkin! Way to go! It looks really awesome! Tell Daddy that flat black spray paint is what my Mommy uses first to cover up the paper on the pumpkin, then she sprays it with orange after the black dries. Also, the pumpkin face moved because you needed more layers of paper mache on it. (the thicker the layers, the better!) I feel so good to have inspired you to make one! 🙂
I will definitely be having a good atnother pumpkin, it was loads of fun (despite daddy’s interference lol)
Maybe we need to get Daddy his “own” craft to do, then he will leave your pumpkins alone! LOL
Pretty cool indeed! But it doesn’t look very edible.
sadly its not:-(
Oh Misaki, I thinks it’s FABulous!!! Who wants a pawfect pumpkin anyhu??! This one has lots more pawsonality, and looks extra spooky!! That’s the point, right? So good work to your peeps!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I guess that’s true Rubes
I’m glad that your crisis was averted! My mom person wants a pumpkin just like the one Wyatt has. He was nice enough to share the pattern and we think it’s adorable. The problem is no one wants to do the actual carving!
I don’t think they’re crafty enough to make a paper one.
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
Maybe they could draw the face on instead of carving? Or maybe you could take a bite or two out of it to get them started:-)
What a project! Sounds like this might not be a lucky pumpkin 😉 But I think it looks terrific!
Thanks so much!
Oh dear. The pumpkin looks a bit sorry for itself. But at least you have a pumpkin. We don’t 😦
Yes, its a bit sad isn’t it. I think maybe it wants a friend:-)
