Daddy’s midlife crisis

When men get to a certain age, they often buy sports cars or boats, apparently it’s to do with rediscovering their youth. But as he can’t afford either of those, my daddy has decided to invest in a different type of transport – rollerskates.

As a teenager, daddy loved his skates but when he met mummy (who isn’t good with anything that has wheels) he put them aside. Recently though daddy has rediscovered his skates and decided to take them out of retirement, along with himself.

The other night when daddy announced he was going to be taking me for my evening walk on his skates mummy knew it was a recipe for disaster. And she wasn’t wrong: he fell over outside the house and then twice more on the way to the park, which is literally a minute’s walk from our house! He walked home barefoot.

outside out front door - daddy why are you on the floor??

On the plus side daddy admitted that his fall’s were his fault and not mine, he even said he was touched by how concerned I seemed to be for him when he was prostrate on the floor. But instead of being put off, he’s decided he just needs more practice. So we tried again.

notice the dirt stains on daddy’s jogging bottoms where he fell BOL

This time mummy came along just to make sure he didn’t hurt himself.Β  And luckily daddy managed to stay upright.

Mummy is hoping that this is a phase that will pass quickly. I’m hoping daddy will get me a matching pair of rollerskates as they look like super fun and I think I’d have more chance catching squirrels while wearing them. How cool would that be!

Have you ever been rollerskating?

  1. Your Daddy is a brave man! Perhaps it might be a good idea to refrain from using skates Misaki, if it looks that hard on two legs think about how four legs would cope πŸ˜€

  2. Oh Misaki…both SHE and I want to thank your Daddy for starting our day off laughing…we both feel bad that he fell (several times) but the photos are priceless! BTW…when you get your own roller skates…we need video! Bark Bark Bark! In case we haven’t told you lately: We LOVE your blog! Woofs Barks and Wags!

Oh Misaki..poor squealy wheelie daddy!! you are so sweet for caring for him in his ‘situation’…I did laugh but of course I have no control over that ….the pic of daddy dacks done in dirt did it …..and yes the last time I wore skates…well at a high school skating day..i was wearing a pair of satin flairs..yep age showing..70″s teen..and I fell..i felt a breeze in my bot bot area..and..yes ripped the pants from the bottom of the zip at the front to the waistband at the back….traumatised beyond teen belief I promptly gave up the skates for a more pant friendly activity πŸ™‚ Have a great day Misaki and hugs to you and mid-life Daddy hehehehh πŸ™‚

Well wheels are wheels and skates are cheaper than a ferrari! mol Thanks for the laugh πŸ™‚

  5. WOO HOO! Your Daddy’s mid-life crisis could turn into something way fun if you get your very own rollerskates so you can go skating with him – you certainly would be the talk of the town Misaki……my Mom skated as a kid but I think she fell a lot because she still has scarred up knees from way back then. I’ve seen videos of dogs on skateboards and surfboards so why not on skates? GO FOR IT GIRL ! You can do it (and I bet you won’t fall like your Dad either!!).

  6. Wow! it looks cool! Good for daddy! Keep it up!

  7. Lol good on you Lori :-). I got a hula hoop at weekend and my next toy is roller skates :-). We can make a roller blog lol

  8. Maybe your daddy will just go get a sports car after all. So much safer! Plus, you’d look awesome in a sweet little convertible…

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  9. BOL boys with toys ….over the years nowt changes they just get more expensive. Good luck dad with the rollerskates. Rather him than my peeps. Imagine if I saw a squirrel? Have a tremendous Thursday.
    Best wishes Molly

BOL O I do hope this phase continues I want more photos!!

  11. Hehehe! Misaki it sounds like great fun! You’re very good to look after him and not laugh when he falls over…I think I’d laugh at my humans! =^.^=

  12. We think your Daddy needs to wear a helmet for sure! Falling can be dangerous! We hope he is ok! Mom said no way in hell will she roller skate. Not only does she not know HOW to roller skate, but if she tries it, she will break her neck. Barks and licks and love, Dakota

    • Misaki says:

Mummy tried to get him to wear his bike helmet but he wouldn’t have it. Luckily he hasn’t hurt himself when he’s fallen but she winces everytime he goes down.

  13. Ruby says:

Oh Misaki you should definitely get your own pair! You could pull your daddy along instead of him walking you!

  14. Emmadog says:

If he could get some speed going, you could run along side him. That would be fun!

  15. Well, our doggie caps are off to your daddy for trying to rollerskate, Misaki! Our mummy is a HUGE clutz so she would never try anything that physical. We watch her fall UP the stairs nearly every day. Maybe your daddy will get you a skateboard, Misaki? Love from Simone the collie and Eddie and Lucy the JRs.

  16. Will and Eko says:

Hey, at least he didn’t buy a convertible – skates are much cheaper! Although, possibly more dangerous in the short run.

  17. raisingdaisy says:

Maybe Daddy should wait until winter and get a pair of mini-skis so you can pull him to the park? Sounds a bit safer to me! πŸ˜‰ I can just picture you on skates chasing those squirrels – no squirrel would be safe! πŸ˜€

  18. We hope your Daddy doesn’t hurt himself. We have never been roller skating but our Lady tried it one time years ago. She has some balance issues, so it wasn’t for her. Roller Derby is making a come back in our area, maybe your Daddy could join that! Lee and Phod

  19. GizmoGeodog says:

I love it! I think they need to get you a pulling harness Misaki and that way you can pull Dad down the street on his skates…You’d get him going super fast!

  20. Kyla says:

I hope this phase doesn’t last as long as the terrible twos. Make certain your health insurance is paid up.

  21. hahaha my dad tried this too with the two Huskies – he bought in-line skates and thought they would pull him away. Sadly they preferred different directions and my dad polished the street. After 8 stitches on his knee he was as good as new :o)

  22. OMD, you totally need a pair!! Or just think — you could go off after a squirrel and just tow your daddy behind you instead of having him huff and puff trying to catch up. Think of the possibilities.

  23. Tell Daddy we’re proud of him trying to relive his youth. Roller skating was THE THING when I was a kid. Would love to do it again, but don’t think I’d stay upright for more than 2 seconds. Hope he gets you a pair, too!

  24. Good for your Daddy. Our Mummy is super uncoordinated so she falls over all the time with or without skates! Whee have seen the little hoomans on their bikes which look fun though, whee think the basket on the front of Mummy’s old one is perfectly piggy sized! ^_^

Hope you are enjoying the sunshine

That is just too funny!!! Misaki on wheels chasing squirrels, that just made my day!

  26. We can’t wait to see you on skates, Misaki – maybe you can start a new trend. Let us know how it works out. BUT we don’t think we will ever try to get the Momster on skates. She has enough trouble staying on her feet with shoes on.

Woos – Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning

  27. Kuruk says:

Oh what fun! You could pull your daddy along for hours! Woooowooooo, Ku
p.s. Mama says maybe your daddy should get a helmut and wrist protectors first. Then you can run, run, run…….!!!

  28. Holy cows Misaki!!! You better keep an eye on your Pops! Butts, you and your Moms should be glad they’re not Rollerblades…those are uncontrollable!!! (just ask Ma!!)
I thinks you should gets a couple of pair of skates Misaki! Those tree rats will never stand a chance!!
    Kisses

  29. Clowie says:

I think you’ll need two pairs, Misaki! But be careful!

  30. Haha! Humans are sure good for entertainment aren’t they?! I’ve been to a roller skating rink and I’ve tried on a pair of skates, but it seems a crazy fool thing to do. 4 legs going every which way? not for me. You take care Misaki and just enjoy your dad’s foolhardiness!

  31. BOL well it does sound kinda fun I guess. I would be worried that Shiner would pull me down. I used to be a pretty awesome roller skater back in my kid days… haven’t been in years. I could go backwards and forwards and do spins.

  32. BOL, BOL, what fun. Tell your daddy, knee pads, helmet, elbow pads, oh poop, pad the whole body so your mummy doesn’t have to take him for a walk while he skates you. Max & Bella

  33. sue ellen says:

Your daddy is a very BRAVE soul. Lotza goofy things happen when one is on ‘wheels’.
We agree with Max & Bella…just bubble wrap your dad…he won’t get hurt if he stumbles AND your mummy will ‘hear’ him “pop” if he hits the ground!!

  34. Mags Corner says:

We think your dad has caught back on to rollerskating quickly. Mumsy tried to rollerskate a few years ago for the first time since she was a kid and she totally flopped and gave up on it. Sweet Misaki when you get rollerskates we for sure want to see pictures or better yet a video of you and your dad skating together. Now that should be great fun. You could ride a skateboard if you don’t get skates. Your dad was a good sport letting your mom take pictures of him on the floor, you did good watching over him too. Hugs and nose kisses

  35. Your Mommy should be glad he didn’t buy a Ferrari or a boat. Maybe she should go skating with him to make sure he doesn’t fall down? I totally think you should have skates! I bet you are the most coordinated in your family! XOXOXO

  36. speedyrabbit says:

I used to be pretty good on Roller skates, but its to hilly here to take that up again, could be fun for you if your daddy gets the hang of it again,xx Rachel Speedy’s mum

Hello Misaki!! Sherri-Ellen here…I am rofwl over your Daddy’s rollerskating antics!!! Now I can see you on puppy skates rolling along & maybe pulling your Dad…..hehehehe….
I used to roller skate or rather try…I think I spent more time on my backside than on my feet…i finally gave mine away!!!! Then there was ice skating but that is another story……
Have a fun weekend & watch your Daddy….he needs your support!!!
Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue too (who has never rollerskated but wants her Condo on wheels..)

  39. Novroz says:

I have never tried to skate…too scary. I wish your daddy a huge good luck.
It would be great if you two can roll together πŸ˜‰

  40. sprinkles says:

When I was a teenager 87 years ago, I used to love to rollerskate! There was a rink in another town close by that I’d sometimes go to with my friends for a night of fun. Haven’t tried it in years though, so I’m pretty sure I’d be falling down a lot like your dad.

  41. Nikitaland says:

Daddy needs a pillow on his bottom! LOL

  42. You go Daddy!!! Roller skates are GREAT exercise and good for keeping your balance…uummmm…unless you skate WHILE walking a Malamute I’m guessing…just sayin’
