Vets!

Today mummy didn’t go to work, instead she took me to the vets – I can hear some of you cringing already! But it was just for a check-up and my vets is in Pets at Home so I love going because I get cuddles and treats, and maybe a new toy on the way out:-)

The main reason for the visit is that on Thursday I’m having my BIG GIRL OP and I had to be checked over. Mummy explained that this means I won’t be able to have puppies. But I’m still a puppy myself and I’m far too young to be a mummy, so that’s fine with me! Some of mummy’s friends tried to talk her into breeding me (yuck!), but mummy thinks there are already far too many doggies in shelters looking for good homes and if they want a dog they should adopt one.

If I did have puppies and mummy couldn’t find decent homes for the mini-Misaki’s we’d have to keep the unwanted ones and they’d probably try to sleep on my armchair, play with my toys and eat my food – oh the horror!! Plus mummy and daddy only have two hands each, how will I get my fill of bellyrubs and ear scratchings with 6 or 7 mini-Misakis’ taking up their time and attention??

Mummy says there are also lots of health benefits for me ‘being done’ but most of all it means no more seasons and therefore no more being stuck under house arrest. Sounds good to me!

So please keep your paws crossed for me on Thursday. Mummy says it’s all very standard and I should be back to normal within a couple of days. And best of all she’s taking a few days off work to stay home with me while I recover. Overall I can’t complain!

Have you had your big girl or boy op?

  1. Hey Misaki! How have you been? i’m sorry i haven’t come along to visit in a while. 😀 We’ve been busy preparing for da videO for Cesar Millan here: http://www.subarubestinshow.com/vote.php?dog_video=226 Today’s the final day for vOting. Just barely 3 hours to go. I was wondering if you would like to help vOte for me? 😀 Thanks Misaki! Xoxoxo Poppy!

  2. Misaki – that is great news! So many health benefits, no house arrest and mummy home with you too 😉 We’ll be thinking of you on Thursday.

  3. Oh Misaki I think you’ll be very happy to have the big girl op on Thursday – maybe a tiny bit sore but that will go away very quickly and your Mummy being home with you means LOTS of attention!! I’m sure mini-Misakis would be adorable (just like their Mom) but lots of time and attention and work for everyone….with so many pups in shelters who’d LOVE to have a home, people can adopt one there easily anyway. I’m VERY PROUD OF YOU…..be brave and remember it’s a very responsible thing you AND your pawrents are doing…… 😀 😀 By the way – I had my big boy op right after I was adopted from the shelter and I’m sure I’m much happier and healthier because of that (besides the shelter required that for adoption!!).

Hi Misaki. I’ll be thinking of you on Thursday. This happened to me and I was very sleepy when I came home again, but within a couple of days they were worrying about keeping me from overdoing things!

  5. I’z been done Misaki, nuffin to it..Youz will be fine, just no running for a little while 🙂 xx00xx

Misaki you will be just fine and it is great that your Mom is so responsible. I had my “big boy” procedure years ago and I was just fine! I will be thinkin’ of ya that day! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  7. I have been there and done that, M. It’s a walk in the park, and you get to wear an adorable cone on your head, which is something like having a new dress. I had already had 3 shelter puppies that were adopted before Mom found me left behind. I don’t want to do that anymore!! Good luck on Thursday. xoxo

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  8. Your Mom is being very responsible about all of this. The whole zoo this side has had their big girl/boy ops. I like that she’d prefer people to adopt an animal in need. I will be thinking of you on Thursday and I’m sure it’ll all go just fine. Plus, you’ll be getting extra mummy time and probably lots of treats and nice things for having gone through it.

    • Thanks LLCD, mummy was shocked how many people wanted me to have pups. Since having me she’s realised just how many doggies are in need of homes and would feel terrible if my pups either took a home away from a rescue, or added to their growing numbers.

  9. Kyla says:

Don’t listen to the others. If I had to do it over again, I’d get an academy award. Sulk like crazy even though you feel OK and mope around the house. You’ll be getting all kinds of treats, belly rubs and sympathy. Play it for all it’s worth and keep it up until They get wise to what you’re doing. You only get one shot at this-do it right.

  10. Dianda says:

I’m proud oof your mom that she sticked to not breeding, even though her friends tried to talk her into it!

  11. Hello Misaki. I had my big boy operation last month. The worse part was that I couldn’t run free for a week. Mom kept me on a lease so I would not hunt myself. After that…. I was flying around the yard again. Good luck my lovely Misaki.
    Luv ya.

  12. Madi and Mom says:

MOL Misaki you might be just a pup yourself but you have figured out you love being the only Diva in the house and don’t want your things shared. Good luck with your gardenetomy…that is what Mom calls it.
    Hugs Madi your BFFF

  13. Misaki I like the way your Mom thinks! You will be fine.. 🙂

  14. My peeps agrees with everything your mum said. We have paws crossed it goes well and you are back to romping and a rolling Misaki. Have a marvelous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  15. CATachresis says:

Oh good luck, Misaki. I’m sure it will be fine!! I had my boy op many years ago, but I have to have a “procedure” done in my mouth next week!! 😦

  16. Good luck. Mummy and daddy have Me done at exactly six months. Mummy said that there was no way she wanted little mini Jaspers running around the Mangamahu valley. She says one is more than enough. And think no more house arrest. Love Nellie and Jasper

  17. Hey Misaki, Jet here.

Uh, I’m a little out of my league here, so, I’m passing this over to Mom and JJ.

    Hi Misaki, JJ here.

I had my girl OP this May… Not sure if you read about it because they told Mom I was fixed when she adopted me and then, whoops, I wasn’t. Plus, I almost died because of this pyometra problem middle age ladies can get, like me. You are way ahead getting your Op now. Make sure you get LOTS of attention, treats, pets and upper belly rubs… good tv, calm music, go for the full on pampering.

While we think mini-Misakis would be beyond adorable and lovely to blog with, we cannot agree with your reasoning more! So proud of you… we will cross paws and fingers for smooth sailing.

Sending JJ hugs (and Jetty kisses, he’s a really good nurse if I may say so) and lovies from Mom.

  18. Katie says:

Misaki, we will be thinking of you! No need for puppies anyway. They’d steal all your attention!

    Oink oink,
    Katie and Coccolino the mini

  19. RA says:

    Harrooo Misaki,
Don’t worry deary, it’s just a little thing and woo will be up and playing in no time! We here will be sending woo lots of healing siber vibes.

  20. Glad your vet visit went well Misaki and we’ll keep our paws crossed for you on Thursday!

  21. speedyrabbit says:

As long as you got extra cuddles!

  22. Emmadog says:

Good luck with your op. Mom was thinking of breeding me too but then decided against it and had me fixed. She hated my time of year because I was so nasty for several weeks. I am not so keen on boys hanging around my private areas, so I am fine with being fixed 🙂 Make sure and play up the pain thing for days afterwards so you get lots of extra attention.

  23. Good luck Misaki xxx we had the boys op and the drugs are great the first 24 hours hee hee. Mum said we look so spaced out

  24. I had my procedure years ago. No puppies for me either. A good idea! You’ve got some smart peeps. We’ll be thinking of you on Thursday. You’ll be fine.

    Arooo! Stuart
PS Hey, I hopped over and voted for Popcorn.

  25. Good Luck, Misaki. You’ll be okay. I got done at 5 months and Ma was real worried, but I didn’t even feel bad. Oh, but I did have to where “the cone.” So watch out they might put one on you. It’s the worst. Ma took it off after a day because I was teething so bad and couldn’t chew my bones. I never even noticed the stitches for 2 whole weeks. You’ll be back to playing in no time 😀

  26. Zena says:

Wish I could say I remember it Misaki but it has passed from my memory so it can’t have been that bad. Like you, I enjoyed being a puppy. I was a puppy up until I was six and then I only stopped being a puppy when Zac died.
I agree with your Mum. I know if I had puppies The Producer would have wanted to keep them all and quite frankly I wouldn’t 😀
Hope it’s as quick, easy and painless for you as it was for me. I do remember being up and playing with Zac the next day 🙂

  27. Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning says:

We will all definitely cross our paws for you, Misaki. Mom agrees with your Mom that this is the best thing to do for so many good reasons. Ciara says it really isn’t too big a deal, as long as you don’t have to wear the silly dreaded cone of shame. Good luck, we are sure all will be fine.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  28. spittythekitty says:

Aw, sweetie! You’ll do great! I will purr for it to go quick and easy!

Maybe when it’s all over, you can read my post from August 21 of this year to hear my story (don’t worry–nuffing went wrong!!!)–I am a pretty feral boy still and so the Human couldn’t get me in a carrier easily, so I wasn’t neutered till I was eight. I was a real drama king about it too! Ha ha ha!!!

  29. Oh, Misaki, I’ll be thinkin’ of you gurl! Remembers to gets LOTS of treaties the next day and ‘milk it’ for all it’s worth!

    Kisses,
    Ruby

  30. stanzebla says:

Good luck for the big girl operation! I can understand that you are worried about mini Misakis but I am sure they would be very cute. My cats had those big girl operations but two of them were a bit faster grown up than I thought. Also known as looking like a tiny ball. *cough* That’s why three cats are living here now and not two. The operations were soon forgotten and there’s no difference in their behaviour. The two that had kittens are still the same and don’t seem to feel different than the one that had no kittens. At least that’s what they say.

  31. I’ve had the snip Misaki and it wasn’t so bad. Apparently it means I’m supposed to be nicer and less territorial too. I was always nice but now I get extra credit! I hope yours goes well on thurs. I hope you get a really cool new toy on the way out of the vets! Bisous Bailey

  32. Dalton says:

I will be finking of you, and look forward to the photos of you wearing the cone of shame!! BOL crossing everyfing!

  33. Jessica says:

Taylor had her big girl OP just before we adopted her. I know you will do just fine on Thursday! And that’s so great that you get to have more mommy time after the procedure…lucky you! 🙂

  34. snoopys@snoopysdogblog says:

    Hey Misaki,

I’ll be thinking of you buddy – I’m sure your Mum will do a great job in looking after you 🙂

I had my big boy op, so no puppies for me either….

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  35. Bassetmomma says:

We will definitely keep our paws and fingers crossed that all goes well on Thursday. I’m sure you will be fine after your big girl operation! 🙂

  36. You must be feeling a bit nervous Misaki, but it will all go really well, I promise. Life will be so much easier afterwards without all that stress of women’s business. Plus your Mom is staying home with you for a few days, so that is going to be wonderful!
    Thinking of you xox

  37. Ann Paws says:

Yay Misaki! You are better off without pups anyways. I have helped spay many pets in the past. You’ll do great!

  38. onebluedog says:

Your mom is sure right about all those pups without homes already! I hope everything goes perfectly smooth on Thursday and that your tummy will not hurt too much! I will keep my paws crossed just for back up 🙂

  39. you won’t ever miss not having puppies, trust me! And you will be feeling great and back to your old self in days.
